David Yates will continue to be director, and will have directed half of the movies and lasted longer than all of the other directors when this film is over. Steve Klovis will also return, and write the script for the final movies, completing the series.
The release dates are around November 2010 for "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I", and May/Summer 2011 for "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II". This sixth month gap, although may seem huge to some, is not too surprising, as this will be long enough to release the first one on DVD before part two, yet will be short enough so that people will remember the first movie.
J.K.Rowing is also apparently fine with the split:
Heyman said he approached Rowling with some trepidation about the strategy but
found that she signed off on its logic rather quickly. "I went to Jo and she was
cool with it," Heyman said, "and that was quite a relief." - Los Angeles Times
There are of course mixed reactions to this news, though it is almost all postive. Some people have said that it is only being done 'for the money', but it more often been described as a 'win-win' situation. Warner Bros. makes more mony from the two movies, and the fans get an extra movie, plus the last two will have more detail and less story cut.
